With the backdrop of the Prime Minister’s Build Build Build programme and the recent planning reform announcements, housing delivery remains a top priority to assist with our economic recovery.
As part of the new measures to drive up housing supply, a new Permitted Development Right is coming into force in August to allow for two storey extensions to be built on detached buildings that are at least three storeys high.
Apex Airspace, a property tech disruptor, led by Arshad Bhatti, has been at the forefront in shaping this new concept to build at pace two storey extensions - which has the capability to deliver c.160,000 new homes across London alone.
With funding support from both the Mayor of London and Homes England, Apex Airspace are directly engaged with a number of London boroughs to deliver much needed affordable homes for the capital.
Outside of London, major cities are also starting to engage on how they can take advantage of this new opportunity.
While the new PDR reforms are a very welcome step forward, which rightly requires a high benchmark to ensure well designed quality homes; there are also significant additional challenges that sit outside of planning process, and are yet to be resolved.
This Views from the Top session, with Arshad Bhatti, CEO of Apex Airspace, will be a timely opportunity to hear firsthand the journey he has taken from R&D through to developing a model that works to build new homes; using modern methods of construction for both the public and private sector using their existing estates.
