Juliemma is the Chief Planner at the GLA, and arrived from London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in April 2017, and has delivered several policy documents, SPDs and the borough's Local Plan Review. She has been responsible for leading strategic development and regeneration in the complex urban environments of two of the world’s greatest cities (London and Sydney).

She is currently advising the Mayor of London at the GLA on a new London Plan and strategic development opportunities across the Capital, and is keen to promote the opportunities that London represents as a vibrant major world city. Delivery of the new London Plan and key Mayoral strategy documents will be the focus of the GLA Planning Unit over the next 18 months.

Juliemma has previously worked in partnership with the GLA, OPDC, neighbouring boroughs and key developers to unlock large scale development in West London. Over the course of the last ten years she has been responsible for delivering the borough’s regeneration and growth agenda which has involved managing an unprecedented number of projects including regionally significant schemes within very tight timeframes. Examples of the schemes that have moved through the planning process and into delivery include Westfield Shopping Centre and new extension, BBC TV centre, Earls Court Opportunity Area, Imperial College White City Campus, and LBHF Town Hall Civic Campus to name but a few.

EVENT INFORMATION

The topic is: “Who’s Developing London?” and we have a fantastic panel of speakers to discuss this subject. This is a timely debate in the light of all that is happening in terms of BREXIT, a deliberate shift by Government to growing the UK Regional Economy and a cooling of the London Real Estate market. We will explore where and what are the current opportunities for development and which sectors are faring best? Where is investment coming from? Whether investors are looking elsewhere, as London is arguably over-heating? Are major developments just too risky in the current climate? What are the threats to London as a World-class City and what can we do, if anything, to overcome them?

Our panel comprises: Juliemma McLoughlin, of the GLA, who is advising the Mayor on the London plan and strategic opportunities across the Capital. As Chief Planner, she is well positioned to give us an overview of land supply and the challenges of achieving the Mayor’s growth plans. Allan Holland of SEGRO will address the need for more Industrial space in London to meet the increased demand for goods and services, but with the challenge that Industrial land is being absorbed by housing demand; John Burns heads up Derwent London and is one of the smartest commercial developers in the Capital, how does he read the market, what are the prospects going forward?; Tim Roberts of British Land an organisation whose investment and development strategy is anchored on London, will be able to give their perspective on London and whether its ‘steady as she goes’ or time for a change! We can expect a lively debate!
