John has almost 20 years’ development experience, the majority of which has been gained during his time at Ask, delivering highly complex, city centre office, leisure and retail projects.
John joined the Board and became a shareholder in 2008 and works closely with some of Ask’s key strategic partners including Manchester City Council, Salford City Council and Network Rail. He leads on the company’s flagship schemes in Manchester, including Greengate Embankment, Manchester Central and First Street.
John took Ask into joint venture with Carillion and Tristan Capital Partners alongside Network Rail and Salford City Council to deliver the 600,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme at Embankment in the City Centre, the first office phase of 165,000 sq ft which was completed in December 2016 and is fully let to Swinton Insurance. He is a regular contributor to property-related seminars, events and round table discussions including North West Business Insider, Estates Gazette and Place Northwest.
Group Director for Development and Sales
Fiona is the Group Director for Development and Sales at L&Q, a regulated charitable housing association and one of UK’s most successful independent social businesses. She is responsible for the delivery of 100k quality new homes over the next 10 years, while improving the customer journey for people renting or buying L&Q homes.
Prior to joining L&Q, Fiona was the Executive Director for Development, Enterprise and Environment at the Greater London Authority. As part of the senior management team for the GLA, she was responsible for overseeing the delivery and implementation of key strategies such as the London Plan, the Economic Development Strategy, transport, environment and climate change and in overseeing the operation of the Mayor’s powers in relation to significant planning applications in the capital.
A graduate of the University of Northumbria and the London School of Economics, Fiona has worked in a variety of voluntary and public-sector roles including advising homeless people in Dublin, housing management, development and regeneration and strategy and policy development.
Executive Director, Development
Brian joined Home Group in early 2014 from London key worker housing developer, Dolphin Square Foundation. He has worked for over 25 years across the public, private and not for profit sectors in the fields of urban and regional regeneration, property development, planning and housing.
Earlier experience includes holding directorships at Metnor Property Group, ONE North East, Newcastle City Council, and more junior posts in various local authorities in the Midlands and Merseyside.
Brian’s role at Home Group is to lead and shape the development pipeline, and lead the Development, Delivery, Regeneration, Sales and Design teams to build high quality homes, in line with the Development strand of Home Groups strategy: ‘Building homes, Independence and Aspirations’ Strategy, which has a target of building 10,000 homes by 2021.
Iain is currently the Executive Director of the Atlantic Gateway partnership, supporting the Board on projects that enhance collaboration across the public and private sector partners in the Liverpool City Region, Greater Manchester and Cheshire and Warrington. Iain is also director of IMT Consulting, a business he started recently to advise clients on a range of subjects relating to the financing and implementation of development projects, partnership programmes and environmental projects.
Previously, Iain was director of business development for the Land Trust and was responsible for the development team and the Trust’s pipeline of new and established parks and open space projects across the UK. Prior to joining the Land Trust, Iain was partnerships director for the Peel Group. Iain was part of the team that prepared the Atlantic Gateway concept and works to promote collaboration between public sector partners on key strategic initiatives. Iain has supported the development of several major projects, including MediaCityUK, Liverpool2 Container Port, Port Salford, City of Salford Stadium, several major road schemes and strategic green infrastructure projects.
Iain has been engaged in infrastructure and property development as well as environmental project development and in air, water and land sectors in the UK and USA. Iain has a Post Graduate Certificate in Cross Sector Partnerships from the University of Cambridge and an honours degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Keele.
Investar Property Group
Michael Dong is the CEO of Investar Property Group, the multi-award-winning property development and investment company based in Manchester. A true industry success story, the 38-year-old entrepreneur moved from China to the UK in 2002 to study for a master’s degree and purchased his first buy to let in 2008. Over the last 10 years, Michael’s typical deals have grown from single buy-to-let units to large scale developments with values surpassing £100m. This was a direct result of dealing with retail and institutional investors, both in the UK and internationally. Michael’s rapid trajectory - from a small-time single property investor, to operating Investar Property Group - is the result of building strong business relationships across a strong network in the UK and the Far East. Using his expertise of these different markets, he continually strives to achieve win-win results for every stakeholder with whom he works.
